Having a growth mindset
Our school and classroom work hard at having a growth mindset in all that we do. This means we will be working on changing our language we use within our classroom and ourselves. There has been a lot of research behind this theory and how it has helped people become stronger learners.
The students were taught about the growth mindset in our classroom the first weeks of school and are already putting it into practice. They have been working on understanding that they can instead of they can't. If something is challenging they will embrace the moment and learn from it instead of giving up. Every one can learn, some just take a different way to get there. |

What is it?
The growth mindset is the opposite of a fixed mindset. Some one who has a growth mindset will be more likely to take on challenging tasks versus some one with a mixed mindset who avoids challenge in fear of failure. The growth mindset takes "failure" as an opportunity to learn and try a different approach. The road to learning is more about the journey not the outcome. Some one with a fixed mindset will often give up on a task quickly and easily.

What does it look like in our room?
Students will start taking their mistakes as an opportunity to learn. They will embrace hard work and realize that they can always do better. They might be good at something but they know that they can always get better. If something is difficult for them, they know that they are capable of learning it. If some one or themselves makes a mistake, they will know that in the classroom it is a safe place and to keep on going and growing.
